Thank you very much for this very valuable set ! Schiotz was a pupil of Swedish baritone John Forsell, who was also the teacher of Jussi Bjoerling and Set Svanholm. He made his debut in 1939 as Mozart's Ferrando. He was one of the best Mozart and lieder singers of the first half of the 20th Century and had an international reputation. His "Die schoene Muellerin" is considered to be the finest recording ever issued of this Schubert cycle. <> (Groove Dictionary)
Estimado amigo. Muy agradecido por todas estas verdaderas "maravillas" que compartes, que en su gran mayoría, son casi imposibles de conseguir en Chile. He logrado bajar casi el 100% de los cantantes masculinos y muchas óperas en mucho tiempo que visito este blogs. No se si será posible, conseguir grabaciones de Rolf Björling y Gösta Björling (hijo y hermano de Jussi Björling), quienes grabaron algunos discos, pero no son conocidos como los discos de Jussi Björling. Una consulta: ¿Será posible obtener las carátulas frontal y reverso del volúmen 8 disco 2 y las del Volúmen 19? Ya que no venían en los archivos. Muy agradecido de antemano. Atte. H.T.M.
Muy agradecido estimado amigo. Ahora ya se cuales son los títulos del disco 2 volúmen 8 y los del volúmen 10. Es muy importante (para mi), conocer los datos de quienes son los cantantes que acompañan al principal y otros datos como el año de grabación entre otra información que aparece en la contraportada y/o en los detalles internos del libreto que no siempre está acompañado en los archivos compartidos. Sobre todo si son cantantes muy desconocidos de principio del siglo XX. Igual trato de buscar la información que falta en internet, pero, no siempre se encuentra. Ya se que es un trabajo titánico esto de compartir los archivos; me gusta de preferencia que la compresión sea en FLAC, APE o en MP3 de 320Kbps. por la mejor calidad de sonido y/o armónicos. De todas maneras, no están mal los archivos en general y obviamente se agradecen mucho. Un abrazo. Atte. H.T.M.
Aksel Schiøtz (1 September 1906, Roskilde - 19 April 1975, Copenhagen) was a Danish tenor and later baritone.
He studied singing with Swedish baritone John Forsell. Having obtained an M.A. in Danish and English in 1930, he taught at various schools in Roskilde and Copenhagen until 1938. In October 1936, he gave his first lieder recital, and in 1939 made his opera début at the Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen, as Ferrando in "Così fan tutte".
In 1945, he suffered a stroke. The surgery, following a stroke, should have put an end to his career in 1945, since it left him paralyzed on one side of his face and neck; but he re-learned how to sing, becoming a baritone instead of a tenor.
At the Glyndebourne Festival in 1946, he alternated with Peter Pears in the part of 'Male Chorus' in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia. But Schiøtz is remembered mainly for his interpretation of Danish songs and Schubert's and Schumann's lieder, as well as songs by Carl Michael Bellman.
From 1955 to 1958 he served as professor of music at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, later in Toronto, and finally at the University of Colorado, Boulder. From 1968 he was professor in Copenhagen. After retiring, he wrote "The Singer and His Art" (Hamish Hamilton, 1971).
A wonderful singer. The other great thing about this collection is the rarity of so many of the songs. Texts and translations would be wonderful if anyone has them. Thank you so much for this collection.
